Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Triboda's in-house design service cost? Our shop rate changes depending on what kind of work you are doing with us.
I have my own design to print. What kind of files do you accept? For Our Digital Press (ie. business cards, rack cards, brochures, posters, etc.): Files must have a 0.125" bleed, have a resolution of 300 DPI at full print size, be converted to CMYK, and be in one of the following formats: .pdf or .jpg. Your files are then printed upon final proof signing.
For Flatbed Printing and Roll Media (ie. banners, signage, sandwich boards, vehicle wraps, etc.): Files must be CMYK, have a resolution of at least 150 DPI at full print size, and be in one of the following formats: .pdf or .jpg. These files do not require a bleed. Your files are then printed upon final proof signing.
We do not accept Microsoft Word Documents or Microsoft Publisher Documents. If you design using these programs, please save your file as a .pdf at your desired final print size before sending it to us. What is a bleed? ![]() A bleed is a term that refers to the printed artwork that extends outside the trimmed edges of a piece. This ensures that the final product is not left with white edges that occur as a result of human error and mechanical inconsistencies.
In the diagram, the background of the file would extend to the black line (the bleed). The final printed piece would be cut at the orange line. All information on the piece would be contained within the green line.
If you are using InDesign or Adobe Illustrator, ensure that your bleeds (found in the Document Setup menu) are set to 0.125".
If you are using Adobe Photoshop, ensure that your file size has an extra 0.125" around the edges of the file. For example, if you are designing a 3.5"x 2" business card, your canvas size should be set to 3.75"x 2.25". You can set this in the Canvas Size menu. What are margins?Margins refer to what we like to call the "safe zone". Margins should be at least 0.125" in from the trim line of the document. Keeping all information inside the margins is vital to ensure that nothing important gets cut off. (See the diagram above.) What kind of printer's marks do you need?
What design programs do you use?We use Adobe Creative Suite 4 for all our design. At this point, we do not offer support for any other programs. Click here for a free trial of the Adobe Software. What do you mean by "Convert text to outlines"?If you require assistance with your designs*, we need all text on your document to be converted to outlines before we can open it. This means turning the text into an object/path rather than an editable font. In Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign, type can be converted into outlines by going into the Type menu and selecting Create Outlines. In Adobe Photoshop, go to the Layer menu and select Type > Convert to Shape.
Why do you need to do this? When we open your files in their native format (example: .ai, .indd, .psd), the fonts you have chosen will be changed to a default font like Myriad Pro or Times New Roman if we do not have your font installed on our system. Please note that we do not change typos. Proofread your files carefully before sending them to us.
*Design assistance is charged at a rate of $62.00/hour. |
